BRICK WALLS: Working Ancestral Files

Every week I work on the “brick walls” which you send me.  While many solutions are being discovered,  still others go unresolved.  To keep up with my research, go to “Working Ancestral Files”.  I always appreciate feedback and will post your feedback.  I think that this helps others also working on the same names. Books Online                                _______

Genealogy-Books.com is making some rather dramatic changes.  We are now in the process of publishing books and databases (not for sale) o the website.

Subscribers to www.genealogy-books.com can now view books online at their leisure and thus save the cost of purchasing.  The purpose is to provide researchers with instant results.  A visit to the website will inform you of books currenly available.

When I first began researching (1960), there were few published genealogies and books.  Nothing was indexed, especially census records.  I had to copy many records to make it easier for myself.  Therefore, I have decided to share these databases by publishing them online.  Also included are some books from the public domain (before 1925).  You have no doubt purchased books which are in the public domain.  This is because once the copyright has expired, publishing companies grab them up and republish.

Although my books and databases online at www.genealogy-books.com are copyrighted and all restrictions apply, subscribers may still make personal copies.  The restriction on copyrighted material is that you may not copy the whole record, pass it on to others, or sell it.  I know that this is a temptation over the internet, however strict penalties do apply ($20,000 per violation).

It is my dream that ultimately all records will be available to researchers online.

You might not wish to subscribe directly to the website, but might prefer to add your name to the Genealogy Books Online Mailing List, in order to stay informed of new additions and special sales.  To do this, go here

Revolutionary War Soldiers Serving on the Frontier: Skirmishes of  1780

John Germany Heard resided on Fishing Creek in Wilkes County where his father owned a grist mill.  At the beginning of the war, they erected a fort, called Heard’s Fort.  Heard served at the fort as one of the guards and went on scouting expeditions.  In December of 1779, he enlisted under Captain John Stewart and Lieutenants Baldwin and Smith as a rifleman.   He was sent to Stewart’s station near the junction of Long Creek on the Broad River to receive his rifle and other equipment.  He scouted until May of 1780, when he was sent on a Florida expedition.  His company marched to Augusta, then Brier Creek where they joined the Georgia Militia under General Houston, thence to Savannah where he became ill with ten others.  Governor Telfair, hearing of his condition, had him removed to Savannah, thence to Augusta, back to his father’s fort in Wilkes County.

Pvt. Charles Jordan under Capt. John Hill in 1778, then served under Colonel John Cooly for two years.

William Kemp of North Carolina  enlisted in the Continental Army in Georgia.. His father died when he was young and when the war broke out, he was residing with his uncle in Wilkes County. He attached himself to the Georgia Troops under Captain Dooley, Habersham and Clark.

Pvt. John Perkins of the Georgia State Troops of Horseman.

Tour the Golden Isles  with a History of the First Settlers …If you are planning a trip to the Georgia coast,  i. e., Savannah, Brunswick, Jekyll Island, St. Simon’s Island, St. Mary’s, etc., you will appreciate this historical guideline.  Take it along with you so that you may be the well informed.  For example, a trip to Fort Frederica displays artifacts and names of settlers.  Want to know more?  This work is the result of many years of examining the colonial records.
