GeorgiaPioneers.com….Since its formation in 2004, georgiapioneers.com has become the most complete resource of Georgia materials on the web available to researchers.  It currently hosts over 100,000 genealogies; over a million images of last wills and testaments and will abstracts; bible records for Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia; 32,000+ Confederate deaths; 50,000 obituaries from newspapers all over Georgia from 1740’s to ca 1930; an extensive collection of miscellaneous research notes; several cemetery databases; Revolutionary War images and abstracts; school graduates with photos from ca 1845 to 1900; and most of my books.

As many of you already know, I have written over 75 books since 1964; the first one to be published by Genealogical Publishing Co. was The Georgians (1984). My recent books, Old Atlanta and Cobb Citizens (and all future books) will only be available to subscribers of georgiapioneers.com

The filming of wills from various Georgia counties began in 2006 and this project will continue until images from every county are part of Georgia Pioneers.

NorthCarolinaPioneers.com, South CarolinaPioneers.com, VirginiaPioneers.com……

As Georgia Pioneers grew, I wondered what I was going to do with the records I had collected on my various trips to other States and the genealogies traced since 1960.  Hence, the websites of North Carolina Pioneers, South Carolina Pioneers and Virginia Pioneers were developed.  Genealogies are being added to these websites as well as some will abstracts and miscellaneous will images; also Revolutionary War abstracts and images; and bible records.

Genealogy-Books….was created in 1995 for the purpose of selling books to the public. Last year this website was revamped and no longer sells genealogy books.  It does, however, offer a collection of old books (in the public domain) as well as some of my own books for online viewing.  It also includes my collection of bibles from various States as well as some Revolutionary War abstracts and images.

Future Plans…The above websites continue to grow with more genealogical information to assist the researcher with a concentration of genealogies, will abstracts and images and Revolutionary War. Additional pioneer websites will be developed for Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Maryland, Kentucky, Tennessee, and the Old West.

The best way to keep informed of “New Additions” to all of these websites is to subscribe to Pioneer News

The Jobe House

1888 sketch by A. R. Waud of New York City. Located on the West side of the Western & Atlantic Railroad, about 300 yards from the depot as you come towards Atlanta, and only some twenty or thirty yards from the track.

The Jobe House in Ringgold, Georgia played its own drama during the Battle of Ringgold on November 27, 1864 when General Pat. Cleburne’s division repulsed the greater part of General Joe Hooker’s corps.  Some of the Federal riflemen darted into this house and immediately began firing on the Confederates from the windows and doors.  At the time, the Confederate soldiers were in the Ringgold Gap on the ridge side, without entrenchments.  They commenced shooting a storm of bullets against the house but were unable to dislodge the Federals until they turned a couple of pieces of artillery and shelled  the house while rushing to stampede the soldiers inside. On  September 15, 1888 The Kennesaw Gazette carried an article about the home stating that “the bullet marks around the doors and windows are still plainly visible.”  This small success was remembered by the local folks and retold.

The historic
Archibald

Howell House is located on

Kennesaw

Avenue in Marietta. During the War Between the States it was occupied by the Federals and used as their headquarters. Archibald Howell was born 1824 in North Carolina and his occupation was that of a Miller in Marietta. He had twelve or more children who resided in this home.

Enoch Milton Benson of Marietta died during the war.  <Collection of The Georgian Room, Cobb Public Library System, Roswell Street, Marietta.>
